Former Milan Women star hints she almost ‘quit football’ before joining Roma

By Steph Insixiengmay -

Last weekend, the Milan Women drew Fiorentina 1-1. That Fiorentina team fielded former Milan player, Verónica Boquete, who scored the goal that earned her team a point. The week before that, Roma won the Scudetto after beating Fiorentina 2-1.

Roma’s title win was spearheaded by another former Milan player, Valentina Giacinti. Giacinti was sold to Roma over the summer after she had a falling out with her former coach, Maurizio Ganz.

After winning the Scudetto with the Giallorosse, Giacinti thanked the team and admitted that she almost “quit football” until Roma made her fall in love with the game again. The former Milan captain also seems to imply that she nearly did so after her conflict with Ganz.

These sentiments are further corroborated by other statements, where she confirmed the importance of having a good coach guide your development.

“A good coach is fundamental for me. Both for continuing to improve myself in a football sense and also from a human point of view. Finding a coach who believes in you makes things much easier.”

The former Milan player then went on to thank Roma for returning the sense of joy that she felt that she had lost in football.

The Giallorosse had last week off but the two teams will meet again the week after next. Milan and Roma will play each other on Saturday, May 13th, in the penultimate week of the Serie A Scudetto round. Kickoff time will be at 15:30 CET.
