AC Milan will undergo big changes in the summer and one of them will involve picking a new head coach, with various profiles under observation.
According to Calciomercato.com, Milan will first appoint a sporting director and potentially a director of football, but regardless of who those figures are, Sergio Conceicao’s fate seems sealed. Mixed results, the spokesperson saga and questionable man-management will see him depart after six months.
Thus, Milan are studying which could be the best option to replace him. The new director(s) would naturally have a say given that some of them have personal connections or ideas about playing principles, so several names are in the frame.
Roberto De Zerbi
The current coach of Marseille – who arrived in France in the summer of 2024 – is leading the transalpine team towards qualification for the next edition of the Champions League. Although 16 points away from the top occupied by PSG, second would be an excellent result.
Milan like him because of his playing principles including inclination to ball possession, immediate pressing and counter-pressing, building from the back and the wise use of spaces to attack both out wide and in behind. It must be coupled with winning, though, which he is showing he can do.
Cesc Fabregas
Ahead of Saturday’s game against Como, Fabregas is a profile that appeals for a number of reasons, including his international experience at the highest levels as a footballer and, above all, an evident hunger to establish himself as a coach.
The Spaniard has a style of play that is as fun as it is effective, he is developing young talents well and has built a group that fights for every point. His game is modelled around playing well and dominating, which ticks boxes.
Antonio Conte
Conte’s philosophy appeals for a different reason and because it is based around one thing only: the result. The Italian demands blood, sweat and tears from his players, which he often gets because they believe in his message. He has won league titles in Italy and in the Premier League, too.
He seems to be a guarantee in terms of winning because of the discipline, dedication and commitment he gets from the team. Conte would have been tempted by Milan last summer and it cannot be ruled out he leaves Napoli, so the paths could finally converge.
Massimiliano Allegri
Last but not least, the candidate in pole position: Massimiliano Allegri. The coach from Livorno is another profile that is finding increasing support within the management and ownership of the club, again because he is driven by results.
Allegri corresponds to security, both in terms of his style of play and his CV of work in Italian football. He is an excellent manager of dressing rooms and talent, he gets the most of the resources available and can accommodate the requests of the club. Moreover, Max already knows the pressures of Milan, has delivered silverware before and has a burning desire for redemption.
Allegri has a better record in Serie A and the UCL than all these other coaches combined. I pick Allegri any day over Conte.
Conte can only do well when his team only has Serie A to play for the entire season. Poor record in the champions league and Coppa Italia. No thanks.
De Zerbi teams leak goals for fun. No solidity in defense. Suicidal high line like Conceição. No thanks
Fabergas is too raw and not what’s needed for club that wants to compete for trophies. I would take Francesco Farioli over Fabergas and De Zerbi if we want someone younger.
Farioli teams are always balance in defense and attack. Very compact playing style and he’s a rising star as he is dominating the Dutch league with an Ajax team that finished 4th last season.
if i trained the juve team from back then, then i’d also have a better record than all the others.
Ajax is dominating the Dutch league because of luck in games (penalties and red cards against), the high injury rate at Feyenoord (missing 15 players) and the failure of PSV who are under performing the last couple of weeks. AZ, Twente and Utrecht are never serious contenders for the league title. The only thing Farioli does good is he has a real stable defense (last season it was really bad), but his weakness is the he never has a steady first 11. I’m not a big fan of Farioli to be honest.
Farioli got stuffed in the Europa Leage and is doing well due to Feyenoord having crazy injuries and selling Gimenez to Milan.
Imagine if you took over the super dominant team Conte created and that is it. After they brought you back and bought Chiesa, Vlahovic and a bunch more players you organize the team perfectly for the 4th position. 😂😂😂
None is suitable for Milan
Stick with Conceicao for next season and allow him build his team. Period
Ancelotti too old and I think he wants a superstar player like Madrid did. Can milan do it ? Don’t think so.. fabregas too raw with big club, we can see his compatriot arteta at arsenal. Too far behind liverpool. The make sense coach maybe stay with Sergio. Give him 1 full season with his 1m salary and his selected players. Milan under Elliott / redbird have trouble with big salary demand. remember donnarumma, Hakan, romagnoli??
There’s a time Flick was available but somehow they never looked his way and now he’s at Barcelona. Xavi Hernandez is available now but no one is looking his way. If Xavi were our coach then I think it’d be fun to watch Milan play again. The guy has a style of play that might just get the best out of our players especially Theo but let’s see who they hire. One thing is clear: every year can’t be year zero for us.
Barcelona have completed team players with lot of talents. Different with milan. xavi and Flick play with same players. Remember. They always use their home grown players. these things that Milan can’t do it. And xavi / flick can’t suitable with Milan vision under the clown Moncada / Jorge mendes. They always buy some raw players from France / Belgium league.
Fabregas should be out because he’s a newbie and Spanish, and Allegri should be out because he’s outdated and insane..
Completely pointless article. Putting the carriage in front of the horse again.
Hire a SD. Define a plan/project/budget.
I agree, get a good SD eho picks a coach they can collaborate. SD should be oicked based in budget owners have as well as the philosophy
No Allegri please, outdated coach and terrible gameplay. We have seen it at Juve recently, really boring and clueless coach
Still dreaming of seeing Don Carlo on the Milan bench.
This Milan team is not as bad as they play, the first need is a person who will bring harmony and togetherness to the team, make them all brothers ready to kill for the other brother then you will see what the team can achieve.
Conte is just like Concecao
Cesc is too raw like Arterta
Allegri just doesn’t want to conceed
Zerbi only want good football and not bothered with result
Ancelotti too old and I think he wants a superstar player like Madrid did. Can milan do it ? Don’t think so.. fabregas too raw with big club, we can see arsenal on EPL. Too far behind liverpool. The make sense coach maybe stay with Sergio. Give him 1 full season with his 1m salary and his selected players. Milan under Elliott / redbird have trouble with big salary demand. remember donnarumma, Hakan, romagnoli??
Fabregas shouldn’t be in this list.
Not only a coach of Como but also a minority owner(1%), Henry also a minority owner
Doesn’t the media know this
Allegri and Fabregas no. Fabregas needs to prove himself. And Allegri already showed how he rebuilds. Failed and he got Chiesa and Vlahovic signed. Top manager, of course.
Would Klopp be an option? He’s not active as a trainer atm. I only don’t know if het Red Bull concern would let him leave or what his contract is there. I think he would do good at Milan
Think about this the way the Milan management does. Who is unemployed at the moment or in the summer? Choose one of them. Milan isn’t going to be spending money on buying a coach from another club.
j
Milan should have taken Gasperini last year, and for sure needs to do it now.
I would choose stay with Sergio. Give him 1 full season and 1.5m salary with his selected players. allegri, conte or etc have high salary demand. allegri / conte wants 3,5-4m / season ?? I don’t think so . And remember Milan under Elliott /redbird have difficult in couple of seasons with big salary demand.
