From England: Liverpool could rival Milan for €38.5m Bundesliga defender after Van Dijk blow

By Oliver Fisher -

Liverpool could rival AC Milan for the signing of Schalke defender Ozan Kabak in the January transfer window, a report claims.

Heading into the final day of the summer window it seemed certain that the Rossoneri would sign a new centre-back, but after intense links with Kabak and Mohamed Simakan throughout the day – plus other targets – nobody ended up arriving.

Calciomercato.com did report earlier today that Milan are still in the market for a defender and Kabak is still on the list of targets, but is seemingly behind Nikola Milenkovic of Fiorentina.

However, it seems they could face competition from Premier League champions Liverpool. Virgil van Dijk has torn his ACL and now faces several months on the sidelines, and now the Daily Mirror claims Jurgen Klopp could look at three options for January.

One of those is Kabak, a player who is apparently valued at around the £35m (€38.5m) mark despite the reports suggesting it was a much lower asking price in January.

Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger and Brighton’s Ben White are the other two players mentioned.
