From Spain: €38m Milan star and ex-Rossoneri striker on five-man Atletico shortlist

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek is one of five names on Atletico Madrid’s shortlist for the January transfer window, according to a report.

The Rossoneri signed Piatek for €38m back in January from Genoa (as per Di Marzio), and he has struggled this season netting just once from open play.

The arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic has seemingly thrust the Poland international’s future into doubt, as il Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews.it) suggested earlier on Monday that he could be sold or loaned out.

According to Spanish outlet AS – as cited by MilanNews – Atletico Madrid are looking towards Serie A should they fail to sign Edinson Cavani from Paris Saint-Germain next month.

Los Rojiblancos have targeted Piatek as a possible alternative as well as Dries Mertens of Napoli, whose contract is set to expire in June.

The other alternatives are Paco Alcacer of Borussia Dortmund and Patrick Cutrone of Wolverhampton – a player who is viewed as having great potential by the club’s hierarchy.
