From Spain: Man City reignite interest in Milan midfielder – Barcelona and Leeds duo also targeted

Manchester City have once again emerged as a possible contender to land AC Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer, a report claims.

Fichajes.net writes that City are working on planning their squad for next season with the intention of winning the Premier League again. One of the positions that they want to strengthen is the midfield, considering that Fernandinho will leave at the end of the season when his contract expires.

Pep Guardiola has Rodri as a starter but needs a second option to rotate or to continue using the 4-4-2, and for that reason a three-man wish list has been drawn up containing players who would be ideal for his system.

The first name is Kalvin Phillips of Leeds United, who has become a wish for Guardiola as he has become a top player nder Marcelo Bielsa’s orders. He is the main target, but Bennacer is ‘a very viable option’ if Milan do not finish in the top four as his price would drop considerably, even though he has a €50m release clause.

Miralem Pjanic is the third option and is one that could become concrete if Barcelona decide to sell the Bosnian in the summer. He could be much cheaper if he asks to leave and Barca are willing to let him go.
