AC Milan are still interested in signing Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare and are closing in on an agreement over a deal, a report claims.
A number of sources have suggest that the Rossoneri’s primary target for the January window is a central defender to bolster the backline, however there has also been speculation that a new midfielder could arrive too, to give head coach Stefano Pioli four top quality holding players.
According to Spanish outlet TF, Soumare continues to be a Milan target after they were heavily linked with him in the summer. After failing to sign him then, Paolo Maldini and co. are trying hard to get a deal over the line for the 21-year-old.
Soumare’s current contract expire in 2022 and although the Ligue 1 club want to renew it, they have serious doubts about his consistency, and therefore a sale in January or next summer is likely.
Lille want €25m from his sale if they are forced to do so, although Milan’s offer at the moment is a loan until the end of the season and then a €20m obligation to buy.
