AC Milan produced what might well have been their best performance of the season last night, beating Inter 3-0 to reach the Coppa Italia final.
With the first leg having finished 1-1, it was all to play for at San Siro and with Inter as the ‘home’ team. After weathering a bit of pressure, Milan completely dismantled their city rivals from there, with a Luka Jovic brace and a late Tijjani Reijnders strike sealing a 3-0 win on the night.
The Rossoneri will find out their opponents soon but it is almost certain to be Bologna after their 3-0 first leg victory over Empoli. The final will take place in Rome in the middle of next month.
Today’s front pages
As expected, the Italian media have gone with a mix of yesterday’s Serie A action and of course Milan’s resounding derby win.
La Gazzetta dello Sport: “Only Milan. They dominate the derby and go to the Coppa Italia final. Inter collapse, farewell to the treble. Conceiçao is the Nerazzurri’s nightmare. Jovic brace and Reijnders. Inzaghi: ‘Tired, but no excuses’.”
Corriere dello Sport: “Milan masters, Inter overwhelmed. Coppa Italia: Conceiçao in the final: 3-0 to Inzaghi. The treble dream vanishes. Jovic brace, Reijnders closes it.”
Tuttosport: “Milan olé: Inter, goodbye treble. Coppa Italia: in the final through Jovic (two goals) and Reijnders. Inzaghi furious. Surprising move: the Serbian crushes the Nerazzurri, in a psychological tilt, the Dutchman signs the 3-0. Conceiçao king of derbies, he can win another trophy.”
QS: “A comeback by the Diavolo. Coppa Italia, Jovic brace and Reijnders: 3-0 against Inter, Milan in the final.”
Let’s see Materazzi’s fear come true…
Us winning the 2nd title!
Napoli winning Serie A… Napoli has 5 easy games left, while Inter has to win all their games including the ones against Lazio, Roma…
Barca/PSG winning UCL…
Tbh, i’d still prefer their ‘terrible fate’ of possibly losing UCL final/semi; second place in Serie A and no trophy vs our 9th place, Coppa final + Supercup.
I think Conceicao is a coach you want to have for elimination tournaments, too bad the team was in terrible shape vs Feyenoord and Zvezda.
Tbh, we all want the excitement to f a new coach and new ideas and players, but we should stick with Sergio C, he himself to has been learning in the job in relation to high end players and seria A, give him more time, create continuity, take the pressure off and move forward.
Give Sergio the players he needs to implement his ideas and style of play.
We need to give him a solid midfielder to valve the team and strong fast striker to compliment what we have, the 2 players we need are Ricci and J David!!!
I for one prefer evolution to revolution
100%
You add Ricci and J David to our current squad, you get JFelix on another year loan, put your arm around him take the pressure off, tell him he could have future at Milan and I think we would be fine.
Pundits saying this is the worse Milan squad for years, clearly don’t know what they are talking about, we have a brilliant foundation and with Ricci and JDavid we could comfortably challenge for the seria A title and go far in Europe if not win the EL (something that has always alluded us
You are wicked but I wish it come true as have said it
I think the Milan management need to support Conceiccao, two finals under 6 months is amazing.. he just need time and some little investments that’s all. We must keep him
Let him continue next season I think the coach will bring Milan back where it be long
All this talk by Inzaghi and his team about the Tripletta, and they fall to Milan at the FIRST HURDLE.
Good job guys.
