AC Milan did what they needed to do in front of their own fans on Saturday night, beating Torino 3-2 at San Siro.

Strahinja Pavlovic struck first in the five-goal thriller with a beauty from 25 yards that dipped violently and went in off the crossbar. Simeone equalised, but Adrien Rabiot and Youssouf Fofana netted in quick succession to put Milan in command, and Vlasic’s late penalty would be just a consolation.

The win means that the Rossoneri have put a bit of pressure back on Inter by reducing the gap to five points ahead of their game against Fiorentina, but perhaps more significantly the gap to Juventus in fifth is now nine points. Below is how the papers look this morning after the rollercoaster game.

La Gazzetta dello Sport: “The Diavolo exist. Milan return to second place, but what a Toro! The Rossoneri are five points off the top. A spectacle with Rabiot and Vlasic. Allegri: ‘Three special points.'”

Corriere dello Sport: “The Diavolo’s shadow. Allegri doesn’t give up: he’s five points behind. Milan press. They defeat Torino and overtake Napoli. Pavlovic opens the scoring, Simeone equalises. The second half gets off to a roaring start: goals from Rabiot and Fofana. Vlasic closes the gap. Gimenez returns after 144 days.”

Tuttosport: Torino heart, but 20 minutes of Milan is enough. Rabiot + Fofana: a lethal start to the second half for the Granata at 1-1, but Vlasic keeps it open until the end. Allegri loses his temper with the referee and VAR but is now 5 points behind Inter.”

QS: “Milan defeat Torino in a thriller. Inter travel to Florence to return to +8.”
