Gallery: ‘Alarm bells’, ‘What an effort’ – Today’s front pages in Italy

AC Milan lost on the night against Stade Rennais at Roazhon Park but they progressed 5-3 on aggregate to book a place in the last 16 of the Europa League.

Milan had a 3-0 lead from the first leg, but Bourigeaud’s hat-trick secured what Rennes boss Julien Stephan believes is the club’s biggest ever European win as they emerged 3-2 victors.

Nonetheless, the Rossoneri equalised twice on the night which meant that Rennes never got within a goal, and so they avoided a real scare.

Below are how the front pages in Italy look today…

La Gazzetta dello Sport: “Milan, more is needed. Europa League: beaten 3-2, but into the last 16. What a scare in Rennes, alarm bells from the defence. And today they risk drawing Liverpool or Bayer Leverkusen.”

Corriere dello Sport: “Milan, what an effort. Europa League: De Rossi and Pioli fly to the Round of 16. The draws start at 11 UK time today in Nyon: the nightmares are Klopp and De Zerbi.”

Tuttosport: “Leao, thank goodness. Milan rescued by Jovic. Pioli, painless defeat in Rennes (3-2). San Siro reunites Inter and Milan. Clubs are allies: ‘Only if we are owners’. Agreement with the Council, as long as they can own the stadium and the areas connected to it.”
