AC Milan failed to take advantage of a huge chance to put pressure on Inter at the top as they were beaten by Lazio on Sunday night.
The only goal of the game came in the first half as Gustav Isaksen was able to latch onto a ball over the top and finish past Mike Maignan. The defeat in the capital means Inter are eight points away and have actually widened their gap by a point, while now Juventus in fifth are seven points back.
Today’s front pages
Below is how the front pages of the Italian papers look this morning, and there is rather predictably no shortage of headlines about how Milan fumbled a big opportunity to go five behind.
La Gazzetta dello Sport: “Milan falls to eight points back. Lazio gives Inter a gift, Leao tense. The Diavolo miss a big chance. Isaksen’s goal decides the match. Rafa argues with Pulisic and Allegri over the substitution.”
Corriere dello Sport: “Sarri, a gift to Inter. Lazio beat Milan: Chivu leads by eight points. Isaksen makes the difference and puts his stamp on the Scudetto race: from Allegri possibly being -5 to Cristian’s run for the title. Leao doesn’t appreciate the substitution.”
Tuttosport: “Isaksen scores, even for Inter. Milan flop against Lazio. A missed chance and tensions are high: Leao, angry at the substitution, rejects Allegri’s embrace, and Tare doesn’t appreciate it.”
