Gallery: ‘Milan in pieces’, ‘Pioli hanging by a thread’ – Today’s front pages in Italy

The Italian media have not shied away from kicking AC Milan while they are down, as this morning’s newspapers are dominated by the Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund.

Milan’s European hopes are hanging by a very thin thread as goals from Marco Reus, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and Karim Adeyemi saw Dortmund emerge from San Siro with three points despite Samuel Chukwueze’s equaliser.

To qualify for the last 16 the Rossoneri need a miracle of sorts: they must beat Newcastle United away and hope that Borussia Dortmund win against PSG at home despite already being through. Below are this morning’s headlines…

La Gazzetta dello Sport: “Milan in pieces. Champions League, they are almost out. What a collapse against Dortmund. Giroud misses a penalty. Winning in Newcastle now might not be enough. Injury nightmare: Thiaw too.”

Corriere dello Sport: “Rossoneri collapse at San Siro, they are almost out. Milan plummet, now they are last. Giroud flops against Borussia. Reus silences Maignan, Chukwueze equalises, then the Germans push. Pioli has to win in Newcastle and hope PSG lose in Dortmund.”

Tuttosport: “Milan collapse. Pioli hanging by a thread. The coach is at risk. Even a victory in Newcastle might not be enough for the Round of 16.”
