He then got to know England and the Premier League, having an unsuccessful stint at West Ham, before arriving in Italy in the January window to try his hand at Serie A with Milan. So far he has one goal to his name, but wants to try convince the management he is worth keeping permanently.

Interviewed by CBS Sports Golazo, the German centre-forward explained the differences in training methods in the various leagues, paying particular attention to the details between the Premier League and Serie A.

What are the differences in training?

“It’s really crazy because as a footballer, you think football is always football, the same game. Instead, it seems so different in different countries and different leagues. In Germany, it was very different from England. In England, the sessions were much shorter and very dynamic, high-intensity.

“In Italy… We have very long sessions, sometimes a little slow, but with a different intensity than in Italy. But very long, we train often. Normally we don’t have many days off. But this is fine for me now. I feel very good and fit, improving day by day. I’ve already gotten used to this style of training.”

What has it been like at Milan so far?

“I like the culture, I love the club. I’m grateful to be at AC Milan and to play in this jersey. I don’t know why, but the connection I have with the club and the fans is already strong.

“I’m happy to be here, to play for this club, and I’m always happy to step into San Siro. I can’t wait to play in my first Milan derby, one of the best in the world. I really can’t wait.”
