CorSport: Füllkrug has ‘impressed’ Allegri but Milan future unclear – the factors at play

Niclas Füllkrug was AC Milan’s only signing of the winter transfer window, and so far he has not really had the desired impact.

Future up in the air

At Milan, the future of certain players must also be considered, especially that of some players who still don’t know where they’ll play next year. One of them is Füllkrug, who came on loan with an option to buy from West Ham.

He impressed everyone with his adaptability, team spirit and eagerness to get involved. Even though he’s been struggling with a broken toe and missed a penalty in Pisa, his contributions off the bench have ‘impressed Massimiliano Allegri’.

Will that be enough to secure a buy-out from West Ham? The management want to understand whether it’s really worth investing €5m to sign him permanently and, above all, filling a spot in the attack for the coming years.

Indeed, if Füllkrug were to be bought from the London club, he would sign a three-year contract with a higher salary than his current one. Therefore, this aspect must also be considered too, as well as the fact he recently turned 33.

After ten games, Allegri has used him almost exclusively at the end of matches. The only match he started was against Fiorentina, where he was then withdrawn after 60 minutes with the aforementioned toe issue.

The German is seen as a key player in the final 20 minutes to break the deadlock or hold a lead. Will this be enough? In addition, there is the management’s desire to acquire a top-tier striker capable of making a difference, so it must be seen how the ex-Dortmund man fits into this picture.
