Furlani says Champions League progression is ‘enormous’ ahead of Dortmund clash

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani has spoken of the importance that getting into the Champions League round of 16 holds for the club, whilst also comparing the fan bases of Milan and Borussia Dortmund.

Speaking to Milan News ahead of the Tuesday night match, Furlani was asked about the importance of the match against the Bundesliga side.

Milan know that a defeat would almost certainly see them crash out of the Champions League group stage with a game to go, meaning the pressure is really on at San Siro.

Furlani mentioned the importance of the game and emphasised the role that the fans can play for Stefano Pioli’s side.

It is a very important match. I am sure we will have an extra man, that is the fans. There is a lot of talk about the yellow wall of Borussia Dortmund, but we have the Rossoneri wall which is something else,” Furlani said.

There are huge financial incentives behind getting into the round of 16 of the Champions League and Furlani did not shy away from that, saying: “The sporting importance is enormous. The great Milan teams have made it in Europe, so it is very important to win.”
