Furlani, Ibrahimovic and Moncada

Di Marzio: Furlani obtains control in meeting with Cardinale – Ibra and Moncada cast aside

Giorgio Furlani received positive answers, from his perspective, during the trip to New York as Gerry Cardinale granted him the power to make the key sporting decisions. As such, according to a report, Geoffrey Moncada and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have been cast aside.

In recent weeks, a few sporting director candidates have been mentioned in the media, following meetings held by technical director Geoffrey Moncada and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. However, according to Gianluca Di Marzio this evening (via MilanNews), things have now changed.

During his trip to New York, CEO Furlani discussed the upcoming season with Cardinale and was given the go-ahead to make the key sporting decisions, including the next sporting director. Most likely, this is due to the link with Elliott Management.

“The sporting director will be decided above all by Furlani, despite the meetings of Ibra and Moncada with Tare, Berta and Paratici. Now we start from scratch, Furlani will hold the meetings. Furlani represents the Elliott fund and having the power of signature, he has obtained the right to meet the sporting directors candidates.

“He will meet Paratici, Tare and also Berta. I don’t exclude that other candidates may also emerge. One name could be Toni D’Amico of Atalanta. We will soon need to understand the timing of the choice: whether it needs to be done immediately or can wait for the end of the season,” he stated.

It remains to be seen who will be the chosen one but it’s clear that Milan’s internal power struggle, as we discussed in a recent feature, continues. This confusion really needs to be sorted out before next season as well, otherwise they will find themselves in trouble again.

  1. The only thing I can hope about this is he’s going to get Maldini back and told Cardinale that Elliott are very angry and want the person who already has proven himself which makes him the safer corporate decision and they sent Furlani to explain that to cardinale who technically still doesn’t own the club. Stamp your feet and cry all you want caddinale but you sent him away for piss poor reasons cardinale and it hasn’t worked out. Elliott is a hedge fund, they don’t mess around. That’s my hope anyway lol.

  2. Good! There should be ONE person to take the responsibility and the blame for things/decision. Moncada & Zlatan hasn’t done anything positive for the club since Maldini was sacked.

Not a fan of Furlani, but he has fixed the budget and will now be held responsible for the outcome of his decision(s). Hope he’ll choose the right DS and gives him the power to actually succeed in his job.

    1. Our slow and steady decline on the pitch started after Madini’s departure. Why did the new owner force him out?

Elliott didn’t have a problem with Maldini when they were in charge. What did Maldini do under the new owner that was so different and so bad that he had to be sacked? Told the owner the truth as to what had to be done to make ACM a serious force in European football again – which is what every supporter wants?

If Furlani is Elliott’s man and now has “the power to make the key sporting decisions” at the club, he should do the blindingly obvious, which is to bring Maldini back, armed with the requisite authority to assemble a winning team.

Maldini – a revered ACM legend – was instrumental in guiding the club to a Scudetto in 2021/22 and a CL Semi Final in 2023. He has delivered before and will deliver again.

Maldini is ACM’s talisman. Bring him back!

      1. Cardinale wants his own politics. Which is not successful. Maldini accepted work of Elliott, and after they gone, he expected that Red Bird is going to to create strong Milan.
Instead RedBird did much worse. They only bring youngsters and “market opportunities ” which is disappointing combination for serie a this year.

Cardinales goal is only increased revenue and brand value.

        1. “They only bring youngsters and “market opportunities ” which is disappointing combination for serie a this year.”

And which category Gimenez & Walker go into? 🙂

    2. From what I understand it was Furlani that insisted on an Italian coach from the start. If I recall correctly he wanted either Allegri or Sarri back in June. Lopetegui, Fonseca, Conceição… none of them were his choice.

      1. Furlani doesn’t know sh!!t about football, he is a banker.
So he is in no position to insist on a coach, player or whatever, he should stick to what he knows, which is finance.

    3. The problem though, even if Furlani is now clearly the responsible, he can never be fired, since he is technically Elliot’s guy.
So I guess we will be stuck with his decisions until the loan is fully repaid.
But I’d rather have less cooks in the kitchen.

    4. Sorry the the credit for fundementals of budget fixing and paving the way belongs to Gazidis.

That makes this guy completely and utterly useless

  3. As long as Gerry has a debt with Elliott, he’s their little b*tch. Serves him right. But this snake Furlani is really dangerous. He has too much power.

    1. That’s 100% correct. Elliott still has power. Furlani went to New York with his lawyers for the meeting with Cardinale. I mean like the OJ Dream team of lawyers. So I’m not surprised about this news.

      1. He isn’t a likable figure for sure. But we need to understand who was in charge of the disaster that got us here. Financially speaking, Furlani does his job well. So if the Sporting Side was under the watch of Zlatan and Moncada, then I have no issues with them being sidelined.

But the fact that Furlani keeps control is just another indicator that Elliott still controls the club, not RedBird.

        1. Well if that’s the case why fire someone who just had the team in a UCL semi final. Doesn’t he know how hard that is to achieve? How about a Scudetto the year before. Remember it’s Furlani that’s feeding Gerry what’s happening at the club. Just as he did with Maldini I expect others to get the axe this season (“Cardinale told me that Massara and I were fired. I asked why, and he mentioned poor relations with CEO Furlani. I said to him: have I ever called you to complain about him? Never” hence the weasel). He might be responsible for the financial side but he has major influence on the sporting side too. Dont forget that.
Oh btw I agree it’s Elliot that’s pulling the strings. The fact that they have serious leverage over them is clear as day. That Brokebird wasn’t able to pay the remainder of the money on time and could easily have even repossessed them makes them Elliot’s btch and Furlani bulletproof with immense power.

          1. I think the problem was that Maldini wasn’t gonna be quiet and follow whatever BS sustainability project they put in front of him because he likely realized that this want gonna take Milan anywhere. And my guess is that the reason Maldini went public demanding reinforcements was proof of it.

He wasn’t a “company” man so Furlani pitched a version of Milan that could succeed without Maldini being a thorn to Gerry who was otherwise clueless. (Still is)
            Hence Gerry fired him.

I’m just trying to understand what Elliott’s plan is. Because if it is to resell the club then they are going about it @$$-backwards. Guess we’ll see how the summer plays out. Whether the club will get restabilized by the time RedBird needs to repay the loan. That will say a lot …

    2. Yeah seems like it. Got rid of fan favorite Maldini, got rid of daddy Jerry’s favorite toy Zlatan, he’s drunk in power.

  4. I see Furlani staying in Milan longer than Ibra. If this clashes are real, I won’t be surprised Ibra would be the next to leave.

    1. Sudah saatnya Si Amerika, ditemani hingga direksi di ganti dan di jual. Percuma kalau masih ada mereka di Milan, milan akan hancur dikendalikan oleh mereka. SI AMERIKA DKK MESTI OUT DAN REVOLUSI SEMUANYA

  5. Furlani, the clueless noob who backstab Maldini and sold Tonali.

Milan is in a big decline since Furlani took over as director.

  6. OMG. what a mess.
No decent sporting director will want to work under this complicated, chaotic and ever changing management structure.

Elliott did do a much better job of running the club and empowering the right people. In that sense I like this outcome.
If it is true it needs to be clearly and publicly defined what the hierarchy is.

  7. We can’t be a team that buys and sells half of the squad each window. Chemistry is important.

No srs club will have a self imposed wage cap. (How much was lost by not making champions league?)

Should have top class players in most positions. We can’t sell and loan core players without replacing them with similar quality multiple transfer windows.

    1. Bingo! Hit the nail on the head there
Btw another revolution incoming in the summer. Can’t take it tbh. Too much for my senses

  8. Confusion on the field; confusion off the field; confusion regarding the new field instead of san siro.
What a mess they have made of milan.
I bet ibra will resign soon.

  9. The only way this gets any better is if Redbirds/sh…t sell the team and the current management is fired
    That it in a nutshell…

  10. Once again a bunch of Emerson’s post garbage. You tools do know that we won the scudetto under Elliot , right? You complained when RedBird took over, now Elliot flex their muscles and you’re still complaining!

  11. An excellent development. Elliot are covering their backsides. If things go badly wrong next year and RedBird can’t repay the loan, Furlani and his team are already in charge.

  12. I’m reading this as Elliott sort of let RedBird have their way for a year or two to see how it went.

Well, they ran off Maldini but still finished 2nd. Ok, you get another year.

Then they ran off Pioli, let Ibra make a bunch of decisions, screwed up the mercato and two coaching hires.

Now you’re done making decisions and we (Elliott) are gonna let our guy call the next shot. We shall see.

  13. SO a BANKER with ZERO experience in football is making the football decisions???? BRILLIANT🤣🤮😂

I mean let’s face it, it’s not as if Ibra or Moncada have demonstrated the aptitude for the role. However I do wonder had we signed Ibra’s FIRST choice as manager – Conte – our season would be drastically different.

Like I said before – Furlani is the ROOT of ALL EVIL. He doesn’t care about the club and is only looking out for Elliot’s investment and this proves it:

“ Furlani represents the Elliott fund and having the power of signature, he has obtained the right to meet the sporting directors candidates.”

This is a perverse marriage between Redbird and Elliot and we will never change until the club is sold to an owner that doesn’t need a dime from Eliot. Until the this trash will continue on and on and nothing will change

  14. Sudah saatnya Milan di revolusi dari sang pemilik hingga direksi yang menghambat milan untuk meraih scudetto hingga juara liga champions.

  15. like Bob Marley sang: “Everywhere is war!”. hehe. Boardroom politics is about the deadliest war fought.

  16. It’s clear as a day, they are using this club as a huge money laundering machine. And as long as it works, Elliott will never sell the club completely. They had a chance to do so but turned down and instead “sold” it to Gerry under their conditions.

  17. Elliot are the true owner here. They can kick out Red bird anytime they want. With Furlani have more power decision than gery already prove this. Elliot will making this club huge money laundry machine. Nothing will be changed unless Elliot 100% out from ACM
