CorSport: Furlani to restructure Milan management – Ibrahimovic’s role will be reduced

AC Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani is continuing the process to appoint a new sporting director as part of a larger restructuring of the management.

It is not yet clear what direction Milan will take next season, but one thing that is clear is that Furlani has wrestled the powers of command away from Zlatan Ibrahimovic and is now leading the casting for the new director.

According to today’s Corriere dello Sport (via MilanPress), there is no deadline by which the executive hopes to make an appointment and the process is proceeding slowly. In fact, the former hedge fund manager will be in Dubai in the next few days for meetings with the club’s commercial partners.

The name in pole position is Fabio Paratici at present, as per the paper. However, he must wait until July to begin the job because of the suspension imposed on him as part of the 2023 capital gains trial. Another name is that of Tony D’Amico of Atalanta, but outsiders are not excluded.

The one who will change role is Geoffrey Moncada: he will return to doing what he did previously, which was chief scout. Ibrahimovic will lose a bit of influence and will take on a more of a consultantcy and ambassadorial role, without having the final say on sporting matters.

It is exactly as we reported back on 6 March in our analysis of the power struggle taking place at Milan, in which we stated that the Swede would be the one to move aside.

  1. Good first step. Ibra is too inexperience and Moncada is a great scout but a terrible team builder. Go back to find gems, let the big boys decide who is actually needed

  2. benching Moncada and Ibra is a smart move… getting Maldini (idk if that is even possible, but if Yanks want to achieve something, they need Paolo and they need to beg him publicly and in private) alongside a new sporting director like Paratici would finally stabilize the management…

Varela/Frendrup, Ricci and Fabbian (Pobega swap?) would complete our midfield… finally…

Sottil (Adli swap?) for depth and obviously Walker buy-out… Alexis return…

  4. Ibra now might realize being backstabbed..

Ibra is bad at this role..

But what’s coming next is worse! you guys wish for it 😉

  5. What a fukcing mess!!!! Weasel furlani is now the big boss!!!! He does not care or is interested one single bit in football and only cares to make milan financially strong …. as if anybody cares!!! Bad times ahead.

  6. Ibrahimovic was the biggest problem he chased good people for his own reasons pioli, abate, otavio, and replace them incompetent people because they are his friends he is die hard and never accept others opinions he brought Fonseca and coinceao while he was in charge both failed now he wanted to bring another rubbish couch that’s why furlani got angry and went to gerdinale to take responsibility of ac milan he is far better than ibrahimovic mister small brain but big mouth
