Furlani comments on ‘surgical’ mercato, potential sales and seizing ‘opportunities’

AC Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani has suggested that the transfer window is not over as we enter the last couple of weeks, while he also reflected on the work done so far.

Earlier today, Milan confirmed the signing of Youssouf Fofana from Monaco, publishing an official statement on their website this afternoon. The Frenchman has thus become the fourth signing of the summer by the Rossoneri, after Alvaro Morata, Strahinja Pavlovic and Emerson Royal.

During the presentation for Fofana at Casa Milan – which was delayed by about two hours – Zlatan Ibrahimovic also answered some questions from the journalists and he hinted that there could yet be further additions, with the interest in Manu Kone confirmed.

Furlani spoke to Sky during the build-up to the game against Torino at San Siro to kick-off the new season, and his comments were relayed by MilanNews as he touched on the work done so far and also the subject of potential sales.

It’s a new beginning and it has been a surgical market for Milan…

“We knew what kind of work we had to do, as you said surgical and targeted. We are almost at the end of the market, even if it is not over yet. We did what we had to do without publicising it all at the beginning. I think the fans are appreciating the work done, now there is the pitch and it is up to the players.”

Is there still room for some more movement on the market? How is Ibra growing as a manager?

“The more time passes, the more closely I, Ibra, Geoff [Moncada] and Cardinale work together. We are a team in great harmony. We already were, this market has consolidated the thing even more.

“It is going exceptionally. Until the gong for the end we are here, active and ready. We see what opportunities there are, but we have no emergency and we have done what we had to do.”

Adli, Pobega and Kalulu were not called up today. Are they on the market?

“They are very good players, good guys. They have various requests, all of them. Let’s see how it ends. If they stay with us we are happy, if they want new experiences we will satisfy them: the Milan style says so, if they want to try new experiences it is right to satisfy them.”

Could Ismael Bennacer go to Saudi Arabia?

“He is a very strong player and part of our project. Who knows what the market will bring in the next few days, it is not in our style to push players away, as long as they are here they are part of our project.”

  1. Kalulu and Adli should go; whether on loan or permanent. As the coach said, it’d be harder to manage more players. Pobega won’t have that many space too but like it or not he fills that home grown quota.

  2. We really need to trim this squad down a bit more. And perhaps should try for Andrea Cambiaso for requirements. But anyways, Adli and perhaps Kalulu both need to depart. As much as I’d prefer Thiaw instead of Kalulu leaving.

  3. Go find buyer for thiaw first even if 20m euro . He is cost ACM many point last season and now in first match too. Keep kalulu and sell thiaw.

  4. Sergi Roberto is universal player. he could cover a few positions. 2 year contract and everyone happy.
    .
because we can’t afford Hermoso as well.

  5. I rather keep Kalulu and sell Thiaw. Pobega, Thiaw and if good offer from european club comes in for Adli. That should generate good funds + Ketalerae & Brechianni will bring in extra 30m.
