Furlani answers questions on Zirkzee, Cardinale’s presence and the summer window

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani has spoken about the impact that Gerry Cardinale’s visits to Italy have, while he also answered a question about the Joshua Zirkzee links.

Furlani spoke to Sky moments before kick-off at San Siro to answer a few questions about the present and the future, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

Are these the great European nights that make Milan?

“Milan have a lot of fun playing European matches. Great enthusiasm and a beautiful atmosphere, as usual our fans are great. We expect a good match.”

Cardinale is here, what does he bring?

“Gerry is very enthusiastic, always very committed to us to look at the present and the future, grow and do well.”

Will the results of the present influence future choices?

“We focus on the present, we have an important game tonight and we want to end the season well. The present is the future, let’s focus on our boys.”

What can you tell us about the summer window?

“Last year we made many changes, this summer will certainly be different. Let’s enjoy today’s players. If there are some additions to be made, we won’t be shy. Every year we have to create a competitive team to try to win. You don’t succeed every year but we try the following year.”

Is Zirkzee a player worthy of Milan?

“Zirkzee, you saw him play, you tell me! (Laughs).”

The quarter-final is played over two legs and Milan will be looking to get a good result this evening, playing in front of the fans at San Siro. Stefano Pioli made it clear that the Rossoneri will need to play with a smile on their faces, as they always have done.

A few changes have been made to the starting XI as a result of Fikayo Tomori’s suspension and Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s return. Ismael Bennacer has also recovered fully, starting on the bench last time out, and is now in the midfield tandem from the first minute.
