Matteo Gabbia was forced to leave training early on Tuesday due to picking up an ankle issue, and he could miss the Juventus game.

According to MilanNews, Gabbia suffered an ankle problem – one described as being ‘more of a nuisance than anything else’ – in training today at Milanello. He underwent specific treatment and will attempt to recover using tomorrow’s day off.

Then, he hopes to return to training with the rest of the team on Thursday, ahead of the big game away against Juventus on Sunday. It’s the same ankle that prevented him from playing on the eve of the friendly against Manchester United in Wroclaw, the source claims.

It’s not a cause for concern, but clearly the situation will need to be monitored closely, especially given that the centre-back position is the subject of a lot of debate right now, in particular regarding whether there is sufficient depth.

Gabbia would have been battling for the middle CB spot with Koni De Winter. Mario Gila and Strahinja Pavlovic are the other starters, but – with Fikayo Tomori excluded from the plans – then it is up to the young duo of Sankoun Diawara and Valeri Vladimirov. They are next in line should an injury occur.

  2. well this is why you have that one or two promising centre Backs from the youth squad. We want to give youths game time and complain when an opportunity presents itself

    1. What if they don’t get injured? what if injury to one of our stars creates an opportunity for one of our youngsters to shine and announce themselves at the big stage?
The what ifs must not always be negative

  3. “ It’s not a cause for concern”….. isn’t that what they said about Santi’s ankle injury last fall (before he chose surgery) Look how that turned out.
