Gabbia discusses ‘coincidence’ of defeats without him and brands Allegri ‘crucial’

AC Milan defender Matteo Gabbia has insisted Massimiliano Allegri is ‘crucial’ to the team, after a ‘tough’ win over Hellas Verona.

In the 41st minute, the Rossoneri got the only goal of the game with one of the only moments of composure. Rafael Leao was the provider as he slid a through ball to Adrien Rabiot, who slotted the ball past the onrushing Montipò to get his sixth of the season.

Aside from that, it was not a vintage game nor display from Milan, who actually gave the impression of hanging on a bit at the end of the game against a side almost certain to be relegated. Nevertheless, responding after consecutive defeats with a win is what ultimately matters.

Gabbia spoke to Sky after the final whistle at the Bentegodi to offer his thoughts on an important win even if it was unglamorous, and MilanNews relayed what he had to say.

How do you feel after a win like that?

“The defeats without me are definitely a coincidence. Today’s match wasn’t easy, and things are always tough on the pitch. Today it was important to get back to winning ways, get the three points, and we have to be happy about that.”

Allegri congratulated you…

“I’ll reiterate what I said the other day: Allegri is crucial for us. No one gave up for a second today: we’re all on Milan’s side.”
