The good news is that Matteo Gabbia has not done any serious damage to his knee, but his presence at the Supercoppa Italiana is in doubt.
According to what the club circulated after the scans this morning, Gabbia suffered a hypertensive injury to his left knee during the draw with Sassuolo. Clinical and instrumental tests performed today ruled out capsular ligament and meniscal injuries, which is certainly a positive.

Supercoppa in doubt
As Calciomercato.com report, Milan can breathe a sigh of relief because Gabbia’s knee injury is less serious than expected, meaning that he is not looking at having to face an extended period out.
The Rossoneri’s vice-captain will ‘certainly miss’ the Supercoppa semi-final against Napoli in Riyadh on Thursday. His availability for the possible final scheduled for the 22nd is yet to be determined.
La Gazzetta dello Sport add some more specifics on the injury: the Italian defender’s knee made an unnatural movement when his foot, instead of continuing to run, planted itself in the ground while about to make a challenge.
Reviewing the footage, it seemed like it could be a more severe injury, but the diagnosis was favourable for the player and Allegri. Matteo will board the plane that will take the team to Riyadh tomorrow for the Super Cup.
His use in Thursday’s semi-final – barring a miraculous recovery – is not an option. The fact he will travel to Saudi Arabia means that he could well be there if the team advance to the final on Monday the 22nd. Koni De Winter will replace him against Napoli.
I mean we only have Odogu and De Winter and Odogu is not proven yet so of course De Winter will replace him. I do not like it I see de winter as a liability which then turns Tomori and Pavlovian into liabilities. Gabbia was the main cog in the defence that held it all together
I dont think we have seen enough of De Winter with the first team to call it a liability. But, No matter how you look at it, it is a step down. I feel Allegri will deploy a midfield with Ricci, Rabiot, Modric OR Jashari, Rabiot, Modric. (i.e. a more defensive set up to help whoever is the CB)
Nothing against De Winter but whenever he started or subbed … Milan leaked goals … I mean we need to use our in-form alternatives to the best … I would try a back 3 of Tomori – Pavlovic – Bartesaghi, defending abilities are his strong points … Estupinan in the left of five Men midfield … I know he got a red card against Napoli in the league game … maybe his chance for redemption.
Gabbia ain’t that supper either, he is at the center of the pack, most of the hard job is done by pavlovic and Tomori, cos the attack comes from the wings, team rarely attack from the center, hence he seams to be Solid, he is just average to me compare to all Inter’s center back or even Napoli’s, thats not to say Tomori or pavlovic are super either, Tomori sometimes get lost, Pav and Tom attack better than Gabbia

It looked so wierd. I was sure it was a serious injury – Like Zlatan level bad. Let’s hope it doesn’t happen in a couple of weeks instead. Cause sometimes that can happen if the knee is weakened from a previous knock.
