CM: Gakpo reveals details of failed Man Utd move as Milan continue to monitor him

PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo has expressed his disappointment that he was not able to complete a move to Manchester United, and AC Milan are now sniffing around.

Calciomercato.com write that Gakpo is a player that Milan are monitoring and they are ‘moving in the background’ as they look to invest in a new forward – possibly next summer – that can help bolster the youth project.

They cite the comments from Gakpo in The Times during which he was asked about the rumours he was close to joining Manchester United in the last summer transfer window, where he would have united with compatriot Erik Ten Hag.

“I was one step away from Manchester United. It happened a week before the end of the summer transfer market, but then the deal didn’t materialise and it was a shame. For me and my growth, but also for PSV,” he said.

TMW reported a few months back that both Milan and Inter held a meeting with an Italian intermediary of SEG, an agency that among its clients boasts names such Cody Gakpo of PSV who is of interest to both clubs.

Fichajes.net claimed earlier this week that Milan are among the teams following the situation of Gakpo closely as he continues his excellent form from last season given he has racked up 12 goals and 8 assists between the Eredivisie and the UEFA Europa League in 2022-23 so far.
