Galliani on Maldini’s potential Monza return: “In attack we have many players”

Monza CEO Adriano Galliani has poured cold water on the suggestion that Daniel Maldini could make a permanent move to the Brianzoli this summer.

Speaking at the unveiling of Milan legend Alessandro Nesta as the new Monza coach (via Milan News), Galliani was asked about the chances of Maldini becoming a permanent fixture in the Milan squad.

Maldini spent the first half of the 2023/24 season on loan at Empoli but he was unable to make any sort of impact. That led Milan to send him to Monza instead and he was much more successful there.

He got four goals and one assist and it seemed obvious that Monza would attempt to add him to the squad on a permanent basis, which would suit Milan as he is not thought to have a future in the first-team.

The momentum for that move has since been lost, partly because Omari Forson joined the club from Manchester United and they have held onto most of their attackers.

As Galliani highlights, it is a ‘suggestion’ rather than a negotiation at this stage for Maldini and they may need to offload attackers before he can be signed.

“We are at the suggestion stage and not a negotiation, let’s see. In attack we have many, Carboni has left and we don’t know what happens, but in the right side in addition to Colpani we have Forson, we have a lot of faith in him and we are over-covered. On the left you have Dany Mota, Caprari and Vignato. Up front you always have Mota who can play first forward, then Petagna and Djuric. I don’t see where we are short: we are many,” he said.

  1. And folks that’s how you do it!. Don’t undermine your current players, pretend you don’t need the player you want so you get a lower few and hold your cards to your chest. In classic Galliani style “we’re fine as we are” one week, next week Ibra and Binho.
