Galliani turns down FIGC candidacy despite Milan’s attempt: “I thought about it”

Adriano Galliani has decided not to run for the FIGC presidency despite AC Milan’s attempt, although he has admitted that he thought about it.

Since Italy’s failure to qualify for the World Cup, the main talking point has been who should replace Gabriele Gravina as the FIGC president (the Italian FA). Many candidates have been thrown into the mix, but the current favourite to be backed by Lega Serie A seems to be Marco Malagò.

It’s a name that especially the Inter CEO Beppe Marotta has lobbied for in recent weeks. This is something that has upset quite a few clubs, including Milan, as they believe Marotta is using his political influence to make the decision on his own.

As such, Milan threw Galliani’s candidate into the mix and even spoke to the 81-year-old about it. However, in an interview with Corriere della Sera (via Francesco Nasato), Galliani has confirmed that he won’t be running for president, while also endorsing Malagò.

“I thought about it at length, and I am honoured and grateful to the clubs that considered me as Lega Serie A’s candidate for the FIGC presidency, but I will not accept the invitation. I believe that the best possible FIGC president is Malagò,” he stated.

  1. The guy that ran Milan into the ground. No thanks. The FIFC need someone with foresight. When we were on top of the world, this fool watched as the EPL took over. He did nothing about the stadium or training ground or academy.
