MN: 15 games and only 12 proper training sessions – Conceicao’s uphill start

Sergio Conceicao has been in charge of AC Milan for 15 games this season across all competitions, achieving mixed results to say the least. However, as highlighted by a report, he has had more games than proper training sessions.

The lack of time to work with the squad was always going to be the case given the mid-season arrival, but Conceicao’s first time at Milan has been even worse given the many mid-week games. As highlighted by MilanNews, he has had more games than proper training sessions.

A proper training session means being able to work with the entire team at Milanello. This excludes the post-match sessions, during which focus is on recovery, and the finishing sessions, during which focus is on the tactics for the upcoming game.

Almost two months into his tenure at the club, Conceicao has only had 12 proper training sessions as per the report. In other words, 15 games and just 12 sessions, which certainly highlights why it has been difficult for the manager to get through to his players.

The current balance is 8 wins, 3 draws and 4 defeats, which perhaps can be improved with more time on the training ground from March onwards. It’s the only way to keep the top-four hopes live, even if most will already be decided next week.

  1. Making a comparison between the numbers of Fonseca in his last 15 AC Milan games and Conceiçao in his first 15 games, Fonzy achieved 9 victories, 4 draws and 2 defeats (against Atalanta and Napoli) for a total of 31 points (average points per match equal to 2.06), while Sergio has collected 8 victories, 3 draws and 4 defeats (against Juventus, Dinamo Zagreb, Feyenoord and Turin), therefore 27 total points and an average of 1.8 points per game (the two Super Cup matches against Juventus and Inter are also counted).

So, numbers say that with Conceiçao things have not improved, in fact they have worsened, despite the fact that Milan won a trophy with him.

    1. It is because Red Bird create one very toxical situation.

They think how eventually things are going to work but problem for them is – this is European football. And not NBA shi*.

They will learn in hard way next season when they are going to cover the losses…

    2. You can’t just compared it like that. Both circumstances are different just like the article said. Fonseca have more time and even pre season to train the squad. If with such advantages Fonsesca is still worse then he really need to go retire.

  2. This is not an excuse for Conceciao. It is the reason that he should not be trying to reinvent key parts of the system.

    It’s just dumb management.

  3. You can do better than that. Avoid loosing games. If things doesn’t work as plan at least we pushed for a draw.
Do your magic coach even your directors and advisor are all bulls**t.
