Gasperini says facing Milan is ‘great motivation’ after loss against Lecce

On the eve of the game between AC Milan and Atalanta, the latter’s manager Gian Piero Gasperini spoke to the media at the usual press conference. He stated that facing the Rossoneri comes with great motivation.

Milan have fond memories of facing Atalanta, having secured their Champions League return back in 2021 with a 2-0 win against them. And last season, a 2-0 win at San Siro helped push them towards the Scudetto.

Speaking to the media at his press conference, as cited by SempreMilan.it, Gasperini stated that facing Milan comes with great motivation since the Rossoneri are the reigning champions. And that’s how they will approach the game.

“Playing against the reigning Italian champions is a great motivation, so it’s not just the standings. It’s a match against a strong team, we’ll try to put in a performance as we have done before. The Lecce loss? If you concede goals after four minutes there are 86 to recover, we didn’t succeed but if you look at the numbers they are all in our favour,” he stated.

Aside from the aforementioned 2-0 win last season, Milan have actually struggled against Atalanta at San Siro. In fact, it was the first win since 2014 at home, which says a lot about the Bergamo side’s abilities. Hopefully, Milan will continue on the winning path tomorrow.
