Tuttosport: Gazidis bids an emotional farewell to Milan and San Siro

By Oliver Fisher -

There was an incredibly touching moment at San Siro before AC Milan’s game against Fiorentina on Sunday as fans thanked CEO Ivan Gazidis in his last game in charge.

Tuttosport (via MilanNews) writes that Gazidis will no longer be the CEO of the club from 6 December as he has decided to leave after four years in the role, with Elliott Management advisor and Milan board member Giorgio Furlani taking over.

Before the teams entered the pitch for the pre-match warm-ups, president Paolo Scaroni spoke to the crowd: “I want to give a special greeting to Ivan, on his last day with us. I want him to feel your embrace for these four wonderful years spent together. Thank you for your commitment and your passion. See you soon in Milan but in the meantime we want to give you a big Milan hug. Thanks Ivan.”

During this speech, Gazidis entered the pitch and was greeted by the applause of the many fans present in the stands, and the former Arsenal executive appeared very moved by the reception, replying by beating his hand to his heart several times.

He arrived at the Rossoneri on 5 December 2018 so will leave after exactly four years, in which he has played a big part in restoring the accounts both by reducing costs and increasing revenues.

Behind the rebirth of the Diavolo in the last three years and the Scudetto won last season, there is certainly also the enormous work of Gazidis.

  1. thank god he is gone but we should’ve get someone with more experience like my guy Adriano Galliani that know important of world class players in football players that have huge followers and more importantly understand players have different salary depends on their value something those dump ppl at the club don’t understand because they come from american sport that have salary cap on every american clubs so it work on american sports like nba or mls but in the football world if you don’t pay players their values you simply loose them ,
name one player on Adriano Galliani watch that didn’t renew ? Pirlo was wash the last year at milan that’s why they didn’t want to give him more then one year contract ,

    1. @die hard

With Gazidis we ended up being a club with good financials, virtually no debt and also with the ability to win something. We did not spend beyond our means. Galliani cannot survive without Berlusconi’s money. He knows no other way and cannot seek out up and coming talent. Only established stars which you pay a premium for. Look at how he’s handling Monza and you’ll see the same trend. In this day and age I’d rather have a club moving towards sustainability than overspending and end up like Barca.

I know many many many fans like to think we’re still in the sugar daddy era but we’re not and it is incredibly difficult to spend within budget and keep stars. I get spending on value but Milan simply do t have the money we went with youth. Get up to speed that gone are the days where we can spend 6+mil on salaries for the starting XI. The players have way more power than before and are running down contracts for better deals not just at Milan

  2. Oh so emotional…. he loves money and very…. very young players.. wow what a legend what a glorious person and such a sad goodbye… lol, guy is scum

  3. You all (die hard and zero) are acting like Milan didn’t win the league or qualify for the last 16 in the CL in the last 6 months. I don’t think football brings you joy. Take your toxic selves somewhere else, like inter 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  4. Has done everything he said he would and has told us fans the truth, even if we don’t like it. He has been a great CEO for us.
