Gazidis sends message to Milan staff and fans: “You are a team to be proud of”

AC Milan CEO Ivan Gazidis has sent a text message to Stefano Pioli and other members of the club ahead of the first home game of the season.

Gazidis has had to take somewhat of a backseat in recent weeks as he has temporarily moved to the USA, where he is being treated after being diagnosed with throat cancer. Despite being halfway across the world, the former Arsenal chief continues to express his support and closeness to the squad, as evidenced by the latest gesture.

As reported by ANSA (via MilanLive), this morning Gazidis sent a message to Pioli and club in view of today’s home debut against Cagliari, during which the Rossoneri will look to make it two wins from two in front of a crowd of around 40,000 people.

This is the text sent by Gazidis: “You are a team to be proud of, which has always shown great quality. But above all, it showed a spirit of unity and a special will, which consolidate the strength of the group and allow it to overcome all challenges.”

He also sent a message to the Milan fans, who will be present to watch their team in action at home for the first time since the home win against Torino early last year.

“It will be an incredible emotion to see the fans again tonight in a full San Siro, albeit with a reduced capacity. I won’t be able to be with them physically, but the passion and enthusiasm that binds us overcomes any distance,” he said.

“It will be a great show, in which I am sure everyone will respect health and safety procedures. A beautiful evening in which there will be no room for disrespectful acts and behavior – even on social media – which has not always been part of the Milan style.

“Our strength always comes from unity and the ability to support each other, like a family. A feeling that I have personally perceived in recent weeks. Because this is and always will be Milan.”
