AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli continues to rely heavily on Olivier Giroud as the leading man of the attack, as he keeps making important contributions.
This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) talks about the exploits of Giroud and how he knows how to score goals despite the fact he is now in his mid-30s, as the 11 goals he netted last season shows.
Where would the attack be without the Frenchman? Charles De Ketelaere and Divock Origi have disappointed so far, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been out for more than half the season and Rafael Leao cannot be asked to do everything.
After leaving Grenoble, Giroud has had a 17-year journey that has seen him play in Ligue 1, the Premier League (with Arsenal and Chelsea) and Serie A, winning everything from the 2018 World Cup and the 2021 Champions League.
He has knowledge and experience as well as a killer instinct for scoring goals inside the penalty area. With his many years of hunting in the box, he knows where to stand before the ball arrives. Age has shortened his range of action, but it hasn’t taken away an ounce of danger.
He scored two three minutes against Inter during last February’s derby comeback, the winner against Lazio, the equaliser against Lazio before Tonali’s last-minute goal and the two that sealed the Scudetto win at the Mapei Stadium against Sassuolo.
Giroud is a fantastic striker.
But surely Milan needs to have a capable 2nd & 3rd choice strike partner. This is Milan.
Yes. We are playing Without any contribution from Rebic, Ibrahimovic, Origi and De Ketelaere this season. This is 4 players. Some young strikers are out on loan. So Milan have big minus in striker area. Next summer must bring one or two quality attacking players and maybe forget about right winger for another 1 year.
