GdS: All change at Milan with Elliott ready to review plans and give Pioli more power

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are ready to give head coach Stefano Pioli increased powers as a reward for his exceptional work in recent months, a report claims.

It seemed almost certain that Pioli would be leaving at the end of the season, but the subsequent U-turn in the club’s plans regarding the arrival of Ralf Rangnick meant that the Italian coach instead penned a new deal until 2022, meaning he will also steer the Rossoneri ship next season.

According to a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) on Tuesday, Pioli will not have a full managerial role as was intended for Rangnick. He will continue to be a coach, while meeting the management about the market and expressing his needs in terms of recruitment.

The management – which looks increasingly likely to include Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara – will have the last word, but the results obtained on the field will give Pioli considerable power, deriving from the enhancement of the current squad.

Pioli’s confirmation has shuffled everything, as a few weeks ago Elliott’s strategy did not include Simon Kjaer’s redemption, Ibrahimovic’s renewal and the possibility of Bonaventura remaining.

If Calhanoglu hadn’t blossomed he could have been sold too, but essentially everything has changed inside the walls of Casa Milan due to the recent resurgence.
