GdS: Analysing the referee’s performance in Milan vs. Monza – no big errors

By Isak Möller -

Livio Marinelli was the referee in charge of the game as AC Milan beat Monza by four goals to one at San Siro last night. Luckily for the Rossoneri, there were no big errors from the referee.

Milan have had their fair share of controversies with referees this season and the fans are understandably anxious ahead of every game. Credit where it’s due, though, as Marinelli handled the game against Monza well.

Gazzetta Dello Sport (via SempreMilan) analysed the referee’s display in today’s edition and have highlighted a few moments: 15 minutes into the second half, Divock Origi was brought down in the box but it was right not to give a penalty. The same goes for Gytkjaer, who was brought down by Gabbia 13 minutes later. Contact, but enough for a penalty.

Marinelli received a rating of 6.5/10 as he only left one doubt, failing to punish Ciurria with a yellow card when he stopped Theo Hernandez. In general, the game had a nice flow and there was over 27 minutes of active playing time in the second half, unlike the 21 minutes in Verona-Milan last weekend.
