GdS: Another test arrives for Tonali, this time as a leader – Pioli’s advice to the midfielder

By Oliver Fisher -

We are starting to see glimpses of what Sandro Tonali can bring to this AC Milan team, and he will get another chance to show it against Sparta Praha.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport notes (via MilanNews), the team that will take the field in Prague to try to close Group H of the Europa League in first place (Milan must beat Sparta and hope that Lille do not beat Celtic) will be filled with players who have not played so much this season.

The starting eleven, in fact, should have nine different starters compared to the away match against Sampdoria. In the middle of the field, however, Tonali will keep his spot.

The former Brescia star will have a new chance to command operations from in front of a very young back four. Tonali will have more fundamental minutes at his disposal to immerse himself in Milan’s game mechanisms with more conviction and effectiveness.

“He must not be satisfied, he can still grow a lot and I am sure he will do it because he has the qualities,” Pioli declared yesterday.

Tonight will be his fourth game as a starter in the last five matches for the Rossoneri between the league and the Europa League, and it seems that continuity is doing him good.

Against Sampdoria, the young midfielder has produced his best performance since he arrived as per the paper, and the room for improvement is enormous. Pioli knows this well, and will continue to give him confidence and space.
