GdS: Atalanta make €25m Milan defender first choice target for January

By Oliver Fisher -

Atalanta have made AC Milan defender Mattia Caldara their first choice target for the January transfer window, according to a report.

Caldara has had a difficult start to his time at Milan, having only collected two appearances for the senior side due to suffering both an Achilles tendon rupture and a cruciate ligament rupture.

However, he could soon return back to action, seeing as he was present in the last couple of list of call-ups and played in Friday’s 9-0 friendly win.

Calciomercato.com recently reported that Atalanta are looking for a first-rate reinforcement for the defence and have identified Caldara as a possible signing in the January transfer market, given his knowledge of Gasperini’s tactics and the club.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport’s Nicolo Schira, La Dea are firmly in the hunt to re-sign their former man, and he is the first choice centre-back target for Gasperini.

However, it has been claimed that the economic aspect will make the deal difficult, as the player’s value in the Milan budget is around €25million.
