GdS: Bartesaghi and Magni – Milan’s flying full-backs showing off for Italy U19

By Oliver Fisher -

There are six AC Milan players at the U19 European Championship with Italy, and the duo of Davide Bartesaghi and Vittorio Magni have nailed down positions on the flanks.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport write, Bartesaghi has already made his debut in the Milan first team under Stefano Pioli and has experienced the atmosphere of San Siro first-hand, while Magni just renewed and has been thinking about that debut for a while.

The Azzurrini beat Norway 2-1 in their opening match in Belfast, Northern Ireland. One of the stars was Bartesaghi, one of the liveliest on the left alongside Inter player Di Maggio (who scored the great goal to make it 1-1).

Born in 2005, Bartesaghi grew up in Annone di Brianza – a village a stone’s throw from Lecco – and is a left-back with great physique and intelligence. He played 21 games with Ignazio Abate’s Primavera last season eight with Pioli’s first team (he also played a handful of minutes in the Champions League against Newcastle, in the last match of Group F).

Bartesaghi arrived at Vismara 11 years ago and he found Pippo Inzaghi and Paolo Maldini waiting for him for the decisive trial. The two Rossoneri legends asked him and his father Daniele, a big fan, how much they wanted to become part of the Rossoneri world. The answer was an emotional smile.

After the European Championship, he will return to Milan and decide what to do together with the club. Milan Futuro is a concrete opportunity for him, the new U23 team that will compete in Serie C.

Magni also made a good impression in Italy’s first outing. A year ago he signed his first pro contract, in June he renewed it until 2027. The key word for him is ‘reliability’, something that convinced Corradi and led him to make 41 appearances across all competitions, mostly as a right-back but sometimes on the left.

Those who observe him closely insist on awareness, desire to do and having the mind of a professional. Showing these same qualities will lead that senior debut to arrive soon.
