GdS: Bologna yet to make decision on Milan loanee amid €9m clause

By Isak Möller -

Alexis Saelemaekers joined Bologna on a season-long loan in the summer and, with four months remaining, the Rossoblu are yet to make a decision. The feeling is that the Belgian will have to do more, as a report highlights.

Saelemaekers could have remained at Milan in the summer but opted to leave, seeing as Stefano Pioli left him out for the squad against Bologna. The latter and Thiago Motta immediately jumped on the opportunity, and so far the winger has made 16 league appearances.

However, as Gazzetta dello Sport highlights (via MilanNews), Saelemaekers has only found the back of the net once, also bagging an assist. His first strike came in the most recent outing – a 4-2 win against Sassuolo – and Bologna are thus hoping that he can have a breakthrough.

The Rossoblu paid €500k for the loan in the summer and the buy-out option is set at €9m, per the report. The 24-year-old will need to show more for the club to spend those figures, which would generate a decent capital gain for Milan.

Motta has used Saelemaekers mainly as a left-winger, a position he played a few times at Milan, and he has been a very useful player for the team. However, he now needs to add goalscoring to his game, which was his main issue with the Rossoneri as well.

  1. Atletico Madrid actually offered something good for him a few seasons back. Big mistake not to let him go then – but he was a good servant for the club. 0 chance Bologna rescues him for 9M even if they sell Zirkzee for >60M.
