GdS: Boost for Milan in centre-back pursuit as Inter turn attentions to Man Utd defender

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic as Inter have switched their attentions elsewhere, a report claims.

The Rossoneri are believed to be in the market for a young centre-back who can rotate with captain Alessio Romagnoli and the experienced Simon Kjaer, and Milenkovic is the name that continues to be linked the most.

La Nazione (via MilanLive) reported on Saturday that there have already been contacts between the Milan management and Fali Ramadani, the agent of Milenkovic.

Reports then emerged suggesting that Inter have joined the running for the 22-year-old as they look to reinforce their back line, but Monday’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via WhoScored) claims that the Nerazzurri are already out of the race.

That is because they deem Fiorentina’s asking price to be too high, and instead chief executive Giuseppe Marotta and sporting director Piero Ausilio are now trying to sign Chris Smalling from Manchester United.

United want €25million for the Englishman, who spent last season on loan at Roma and made 37 appearances across all competitions.
