GdS: 10 for the No.10 – Brahim Diaz rising to the extra responsibility as Pioli alters his role

By Oliver Fisher -

The responsibility on Brahim Diaz’s shoulders increased at the start of the season, but the level of his performances has also improved in line with it.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews), Diaz managed to net the opener during last night’s win against Venezia and while he could barely miss given how close range the chance was, the positioning was still important and it was ultimately a goal that would earn three points.

The Spaniard scored his tenth goal for the Rossoneri yesterday but his first in the league at home. In the summer the management decided to focus decisively on the former Manchester City man and he continues to justify their faith, showing vision and a decisive touch moreso than the previous players to wear the famous No.10.

Diaz’s nature as a player is one where you might not notice him for an hour, but he always finds a way to steal your eye with a spell, be it attacking a pocket of space for his team-mates or netting a decisive goal. Pioli is making the most of the qualities of his playmaker including less dirty work without the ball and more time between the lines. The hope is that he will now explode.

  1. As the person who has been at the head of the Brahim Diaz hype train for the past three years, it’s great to see him perform.

I still see him needing to get more direct at times as he can sometimes be too fancy, which hurts the team, but that comes with experience and maturity.

I’ve maintained that his ceiling is a David Silva type player — a no doubt about it starter for his club and national team.
