GdS: Calabria is the future of Italy’s right-hand side as duo remains unconvincing

Davide Calabria has impressed for AC Milan recently and his goal is now to earn himself a starting spot in the Italian national team. It won’t be easy for him, but he remains the name for the future.

As highlighted by today’s edition of Gazzetta Dello Sport (via MilanNews), the right-back position is one that worries Roberto Mancini and Italy, just like the centre-forward one. But they have the answer right in front of them for the former.

Alessandro Florenzi isn’t exactly getting any youngster and Giovanni Di Lorenzo is 28-years-old. The hope of the national team, therefore, is that Calabria (24 years) will continue to grow and eventually take over that spot.

Certainly, he has done enough to earn the trust of Stefano Pioli at Milan. He’s the vice-captain of the team and has thus worn the captain’s armband for the first two games of the season, with Alessio Romagnoli on the bench.
