GdS: Caldara returns after 11 months but Milan Primavera are ‘overwhelmed’

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan’s Primavera side lost more ground in their pursuit of the title as they were hammered by Fiorentina at the PUMA House of Football yesterday.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) recall, the game started very well for Milan as Diego Sia gave them the lead with a marvellous solo goal, but then the Rossoneri were ‘overwhelmed’ by goals from Sene (x2), Baroncelli and Caprini, especially after Alex Jimenez’s red card.

There was a rather interesting note from the game though despite the 1-4 final scoreline. For around 60 minutes, Mattia Caldara – who hadn’t seen the pitch since April 2023 – anchored the centre of the Milan defence.

While the end result did not offer much solace, it must be said that Milan conceded the decisive three goals after Caldara had come off the field, and against a Fiorentina side who are now 10 games unbeaten.

Gaetano Castrovilli also returned after a long injury for La Viola, meaning he and Caldara stood out as being very much ‘senior’ compared to their team-mates.

After the result, the table reads as follows: Inter 49 points, Roma 43, Lazio 41, Atalanta and Sassuolo 40, Milan and Torino 37, Cagliari 33, Genoa and Fiorentina 32, Juventus and Verona 31, Empoli 29, Lecce 27, Sampdoria 25, Monza 23, Bologna 20, Frosinone 17.

  1. Good, very good news, if he manages to stay healthy and fit, the club should give him a chance, and extend his contract on new and reduced terms, buying players is now expensive, with him, we have seven central defenders excluding Kjear, who honestly needs to leave, then we might decide to get a young defender

    1. Caldara not only failed to play for Milan since he arrived but has failed to prove himself to be a viable starter in relegated sides in the past few seasons. If you want Kjaer to go, you can’t possibly justify this guy to stay.

      1. 😀 yeah caldara isnt even fit to polish kjærs shoes. Caldara is the worst buy in the clubs history as i see it sure injuries hampered his career and i do feel sorry for him that it whent that way but he has only been a massive disapointment since joining us and it was a massive failure swapping bonucci with him.

        1. apart from the bad luck he had with injuries at Milan, Pioli never gave him a chance, for the 3 seasons he went on loan to Atlanta, Venezia and Spezia, he managed 86 appearances, he has the physical qualities and the valuable Italian card, and honestly he is not a bad defender, who is already a Milan player, we need to know how to spend money, what is the harm in trying him .

          1. If you want to paint a picture that it’s piolis fault well then in my view it tells more about your assessments than about piolis choices. He couldnt really break that well into atalantas team either after returning to them and they actually had an option to buy him and he had been successfull there before so that should tell you a thing or two as well. he might have been fielded in 27 matches for them but he only played like roughly 1200 minutes in two years for them by the way. He played a lot for venezia but he wasnt much of a success anywhere else when he was loaned out and you want to renew him. Seriously i dont get it and considering we have simic coming up the ranks it makes it even more weird to me that you want to keep him because even if we did keep him he wouldnt play much so better let a player like simic get some minutes here and there than wasting it on caldara.
