GdS: Caldara returns after 11 months but Milan Primavera are ‘overwhelmed’

AC Milan’s Primavera side lost more ground in their pursuit of the title as they were hammered by Fiorentina at the PUMA House of Football yesterday.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) recall, the game started very well for Milan as Diego Sia gave them the lead with a marvellous solo goal, but then the Rossoneri were ‘overwhelmed’ by goals from Sene (x2), Baroncelli and Caprini, especially after Alex Jimenez’s red card.

There was a rather interesting note from the game though despite the 1-4 final scoreline. For around 60 minutes, Mattia Caldara – who hadn’t seen the pitch since April 2023 – anchored the centre of the Milan defence.

While the end result did not offer much solace, it must be said that Milan conceded the decisive three goals after Caldara had come off the field, and against a Fiorentina side who are now 10 games unbeaten.

Gaetano Castrovilli also returned after a long injury for La Viola, meaning he and Caldara stood out as being very much ‘senior’ compared to their team-mates.

After the result, the table reads as follows: Inter 49 points, Roma 43, Lazio 41, Atalanta and Sassuolo 40, Milan and Torino 37, Cagliari 33, Genoa and Fiorentina 32, Juventus and Verona 31, Empoli 29, Lecce 27, Sampdoria 25, Monza 23, Bologna 20, Frosinone 17.
