GdS: Camarda contract signing postponed – the reasons amid interest from abroad

By Oliver Fisher -

Francesco Camarda will turn 16 in a week and will be able to sign a three-year contract, his first professional deal, but it is expected that there will be a delay.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) writes this morning, finding a 15-year-old who shines in the UEFA Youth League and has made his debut in Serie A is very difficult, and that is why Milan want to lock down Camarda.

Before understanding how the situation may develop, there is an evolution that now seems like a certainty. The contract will not be signed in a week, a scenario that months ago seemed the most likely.

A decision will come later and this could also be an advantage for Milan: in case of signing in July, the three-year contract could be extended to 2026-27 inclusive, when Camarda will be 19 years old. If he signed now, however, the contract would last until the summer of 2026.

Milan and Camarda have a general agreement, let’s say a common will. In recent months, Milan gave him his debut and focused on him while the teenager has become increasingly attached to the club.

Clearly there have been dialogues and a common vision has been found, also because Milan are certainly the club for which Camarda dreams of playing. However, things are on pause and it is likely to remain this way at least for a few more weeks.

It will be up to both – the player and the club, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic inevitably involved in his role as Cardinale’s right-hand man – to make a final decision, especially given that there is interest from abroad.

Borussia Dortmund were among the first to move for Camarda and there are still many interested clubs including Manchester City who, through their City Football Group, share a relationship with Palermo. The decision will come later and the situation remains delicate even an underlying optimism remains.

  1. B.S. reason, his agent is fishing for better contract. They can always extend the contract after they sign.
First his agent gives that interview where he says he’ll consider all aspects of the contract, now they take additional “time”. I’d bench him till summer.

  2. If Camarda wants better future for his own way, better he choose City or Dortmund or maybe Ajax. Last milan academy graduate play for first team was calabria, maybe 7 -8 years ago. So sad.
