GdS: Camarda expected to renew with Milan after crucial meeting – the situation

By Oliver Fisher -

Some good news has arrived this morning regarding the future of Francesco Camarda, after the speculation in recent weeks that his renewal with AC Milan was not a certainty.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) reports that in the last week there was a very positive meeting between Milan and Camarda’s agents, potentially the most important one so far.

The chances that Camarda will sign with Milan at the beginning of July are now high, higher than in the recent past. The situation is complex and well known: Camarda turned 16 in March and is free to decide his future, with an obvious crossroads: staying at Milan or accepting the offer of one of the many foreign teams that have been following him for months, if not years.

A 15-year-old capable of making his debut in Serie A – the youngest ever to play in the league – as well as scoring in the UEFA Youth League is very rare prospect. Milan reached an initial agreement with Camarda months ago, then the situation got complicated.

The agreement took a long time in coming, the decisive meeting did not arrive, foreign clubs called offering a big contract. Above all, Borussia Dortmund and the two Manchester teams, United and City.

Camarda could not go to England straight away – post-Brexit rules prohibit this – but a three-way deal with another club would be possible. However, the last few days say that Milan and its agents have found an agreement in principle.

Francesco wants to stay at Milan and at Milan today he has an excellent chance of remaning, with a three-year deal. Camarda would train partly with the first team and would play in the new Under 23 team which, barring any surprises, will be formed in the next month.

Daniele Bonera, the coach chosen by the club, was there to see Atalanta U23 versus Catania two nights ago: a sign that he is undergoing an apprenticeship of sorts, one he hopes Camarda will accompany him on.

  1. Good news, but I’ll be able to be calm only after the contract signed.

We should try to keep more Italian prospects going forward…

  2. So he’s not a money hungry mercenary anymore?

He was always waiting for the U23 side. He won’t sign unless and until the U23 side becomes a reality. And nor should he.

      1. How many top quality youth products have Milan developed in the last 15 years?

What would make you think, if you were Camarda, that your best chance of realising your potential is at Milan?

I suspect he has higher ambitions than being loaned to Spezia or sold to Sassuolo.

        1. In just 5 seconds I can think of De Sciglio, Calabria, Locatelli, Cristante etc. They made their debuts in Milan and were made known in the football world in Milan-shirt.
