GdS: ‘Captain America arrives’ – how Milan agreed a package for Pulisic worth €36m

AC Milan made it clear early in the window that they were determined to sign Christian Pulisic and their interest was reciprocated by the winger.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below), Pulisic only wanted Milan when they came knocking and yesterday a deal with Chelsea was finally agreed on the basis of a €20m transfer fee plus some bonuses.

Stefano Pioli is preparing to welcome him to Milanello, preferably for the start of preseason on Monday. However, Pulisic has to land in Italy, undergo medical tests and sign his new contract first.

There is no hurry, and what matters is that the Rossoneri coach has obtained the reinforcement he was asking for, a versatile forward who has a lot of experience in big games at the age of 24 and can play across the forward line.

During his time at Chelsea, Olivier Giroud spoke about the American: “He is a big name in Europe, he would help us. He is that type of player with great skills, with great talent.”

Soon they will be reunited, and Pulisic will be part of the Milan expedition that will play against Real Madrid, Juventus and Barcelona in the second half of July tour as they tour the USA. Perfect timing: captain of the US national team in his own country.

At 24, Pulisic has everything to give his career a jolt, also in view of the next World Cup on home soil. The decisive acceleration came in the early afternoon yesterday, when CEO Giorgio Furlani upped the bid to €20m plus bonuses, albeit with multi-year payments.

The Chelsea management were asking for €25m when Milan offered €16m first of all, but the Rossoneri followed the strategy they used for Ruben Loftus-Cheek and banked on finding a meeting point in the middle.

The excellent relations between the ownerships of the two clubs made it possible to overcome all obstacles, without neglecting the availability of the player who is ready to sign a four-year contract worth around €4m net per season, accepting a substantial cut.

He will enjoy the benefits of the Growth Decree which allows Milan to pay a substantially decreased gross amount, lowering the overall package cost.

Pulisic’s contract with Chelsea was expiring in 2024, with the opportunity thus arising for a high salary thanks to a low-cost transfer fee. In this regard, it should be remembered that in 2019 Borussia Dortmund had sold him to Chelsea for a whopping €64m.

The forward has a desire to be a protagonist again and Milan offers him this important opportunity. Fikayo Tomori also followed a similar path in the past, joining for €29m after an initial loan and rejuvenating his career.

  1. I’ve warmed up to this idea a lot over the last week. His attitude, experience, versatility means he could be a real asset for us, despite being an evil American.

  2. What i don’t understand is Kamada a player Maldini wanted? He was announce like the second player after Sportiello but all i hear is they have a verbal agreement and thats all..
And more. Milan looks for other non EU players

    1. Absolutely because Milan only have one slot left for non EU player, they will choose wisely. I think they will took opportunity for big name player, rather than Kamada

  3. Pulisic will be a good addition, I hope Kamada, Chikiwuze and/or Traore arrived too. I am also hope that Colombo did well to convince Pioli to give him chance as we could do with the squad depth unlike last season

  4. Well since they signed him I hope he does well, but I have big doubts because of the long list of his past injuries.

  5. I’m confused with the reports saying Pioli wants to play 4-3-3 but now Pulisic will be the AM? Maybe we play 4-3-3 in big contests and 4-2-3-1 against low blocks.

Benvenuto Christian! Hopefully he’ll be a key player for us as he is with Team USA.

  6. The strategy for negotiation was to meet in the middle of opening positions?

A masterclass of negotiation by Furlani.

    We are not worthy.

    1. Yeah, Chelsea asked for 25M and Milan will pay 20M + bonuses so probably the 25M. Weeks of negotiating for nothing, as usual. Reijnders also, just watch how much will they pay in the end.

        1. “…€20m transfer fee plus some bonuses.” Yes, that means including bonuses. What a joke of a person you are. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

    2. Yes. Real mastery is negotiating for the entirety of the window only to end up paying the exact asking price Brugge wanted from day one for CDK.

      1. So you are suggesting that Milan fans shouldn’t ask for better? Furlani is an amateur, Maldini was also an amateur in his job but he gained some experience and was a player, people learn with time. Furlani is a noob without any footballing history, he is leading negotiations now. You’re such a clown.

        1. Yes dont need Faildini at the club to succeed, people like you were predicting Milan would now sell everyone and get relegated in 2020 because thats Gerry’s plan apparently

stfu next time, cant wait for Milan to win the league and you still crying about Faildini

          1. First thing they did was selling Tonali.

“Faildini” has one scudetto, a return in fashion to UCL and UCL semis in only five years with a team that was rebuilt from scratch. That’s an impressive resume, let’s see what the new management can do.

          2. @Boulden you sounds like a proper idiot kid lol. Relax. And go back to playing the Xbox son.

Thus far we have managed to sign 3 of Maldini’s targets: Sportiello, Pulsic and RLC. So not sure WTF you are talking about.

Let’s see how we finish. Reijnders., Musah, Chukwueze and a STRIKER and backup LB are all still needed. Let’s see if Georgio can close these deals. Jury is still out if he can or not (esp after the Thuram mess). Let’s pray he can and we spend some real $$$ on a #9 and not just settle for Morata because he has a cheap (12M) release clause

Lastly a true Milan fans would not bash a legend of the game and club like Maldini. He was fired, fine. Some agree some disagree. We move on. But a true loyal fan who understands the history of the club would never bash one of our own who only did positive things for the club and helped bring us back to relevance once again. Educate yourself kid.

      2. I thought Maldini was fired so this aspect of the club improves and Milan gets better at that, but it seems you are just happy that you can mention the fails to justify these guys. You really are like their clown.

        1. Lol the logic is beyond ppl
Fire Maldini and end up in the same negotiations. They really should have gone for someone with actual experience but Gerry too cheap and egotistical

          1. 💯💯💯💯💯💯 – LOL. EXACTLY

They just wanted someone who will shut the fook up and not speak up like Maldini did. Gerry wants followers (which as an owner is his right) but just shows how insecure the man is imo.

  7. 30 games and 1 goal only and plays at the same position as Kaka??? we are doomed with this guy. What have we become after Berlusconi era is ridiculous…

  8. Pulisic has been the most creative player on Chelsea’s team. That’s why he earned their 10 jersey. He’s also the one who got them through Real in the semi-final the year they won the champions a few years ago. This past year, he was one of the best players in the world cup group play, scoring against Iran and giving up his body in the process (scored then was taken to the hospital). As to his injuries, he is continually the target to foul so he takes a lot of abuse (against Porto he was fouled 11 times). His forward play and aggressiveness leads to that. Having said all that, his game is all about self confidence (that’s why he plays to a higher level with the US team). Finally, having lost all their player leadership, I predict Chelsea will finish closer to relegation that the top four next year. Really looking forward to seeing him play with AC Milan.

  9. I have been following Pulisic since 2015. He got mismanaged at Chelsea, the last two years, by 4 or 5 managers. Chelsea was very political. English Academy Players were given preference over non English players. It is no accident that Chelsea is a dumpster fire.
The true Pulisic is the one who is the top scorer on the USA team , 25 goals in 60 apps. Scored in his first world cup (2022) plus two assists. Captain of the USA World Cup Team and led them to the knockout round. He has been voted the best USA player by fans on a number of occasions. AC MILAN has a real gem.
