AC Milan are keen on renewing the contract of Rafael Leao, which will expire in 2024. However, several factors make the matter complicated and Chelsea are also lurking in the background.
According to today’s edition of Gazzetta Dello Sport (via MilanNews), Leao’s agent Jorge Mendes has requested a salary of €7m per year to renew with Milan. In addition, the player wants the Rossoneri pay a large part of the €16-19m he owes Sporting.
In short, the matter is complicated and Milan are currently evaluating the best possible offer that they can make the winger. Meanwhile, Chelsea are expected to make a new attempt in January and are ready to give Leao €8-9m per year.
It’s clear that both Milan and Leao want to continue together, but given the complexity of the deal, nothing can be ruled out for the time being. Hopefully, the parties will reach a reasonable agreement in the end.
I’m OK with Milan giving Leao 7 mil salary a year, but when it comes to the 19 mil he owes Sporting, Leao, his agent Jorge Mendes & Lille can go kick rocks.
90 mil done deal
I’d take it. I remember how Madrid offered 100m pounds in January 0f 2009, Berlusconi rejected it as a “present” to the fans only to sell him for 65m euro in June. So in June of 2023 Leao will only have 1 year left on his contract and will be nowhere near 90m. Not even 65m. So if something in the region of 70-90m arrives, take it without thinking. Get Lang for 30m in January, spend the rest plus the normal budget in the summer on a RW and an ST.

Milan should be doing the hard graft for identifying the best replacement for him now, if they pretend he won’t leave for free in 18 months they’ll be in for another nasty surprise.

I think that’s unlikely, but they could do a deal for summer. And the earlier any deal is done the better for Milan financially.

The situation force Milan to let him go. Thats what im thinkin. Its bitter for us, but must do for the club’s future. Let start to watch out there for replacement…
