GdS: Chelsea ready huge bid as Milan set ceiling in renewal talks with Leao

Chelsea are not giving up on the idea of signing Rafael Leao which has forced AC Milan into action over a renewal, according to a report.

Today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via SempreMilan.it) takes stock of the negotiations that are underway between Milan and Jorge Mendes for the renewal of Leao. According to the paper, the Rossoneri management have set a ceiling of €6.5m net per season for the Portuguese winger who wants €7m, a difference that can therefore be bridged.

The big obstacle is represented by the compensation that Leao will have to pay to Sporting CP due to his exit to Lille in 2018. The player’s entourage are asking for Milan to contribute together with the French club in the payment of the €19m due to Sporting.

It is a figure that Milan’s new owner Gerry Cardinale does not intend to pay towards as Milan are not legally involved in any way.

Chelsea meanwhile are determined to land Leao and they would be willing to offer close the release clause present in Leao’s current contract (€150m), with a bid of about €120m ready.
