AC Milan have finally secured the services of Charles De Ketelaere, following what was several weeks of intense negotiating with Club Brugge. In the end, the Rossoneri decided to include a clause in their offer.
In addition to bonuses, Milan decided to include a percentage clause on a future resale in favour of Club Brugge. It’s something we have seen before, such as when Luvas Paqueta left for Lyon, but this clause slightly differs from that.
According to Gazzetta Dello Sport (via SempreMilan), the fixed part of Milan’s offer is €32m, while there is an additional €3m in bonuses. The resale clause, which amounts to 12.5%, will only be active on the part of the sum above €32m (i.e. the profit).
For example, if Milan were to sell CDK for just €20m in two years, then Club Brugge will not get anything from the clause. However, if the playmaker were to leave for €70m, the Belgian side will be entitled to around €4.5-5m.
It’s a very clever clause that we have seen before, as Milan used it when they signed Romagnoli from Roma. Of course, the defender ended up leaving the Rossoneri for free.
