GdS: Why David is the ‘easiest’ to sign in January out of Milan’s striker targets

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan are looking for a striker to reinforce the team in January and Jonathan David is one of the players on their wish list. Although the Canadian is not the only one on that list, he’s reportedly the most suitable one for a January move.

Olivier Giroud has been forced to work overtime this season and his two-game suspension has really highlighted the lack of a proper backup. Against Fiorentina, Luka Jovic is expected to play from the first minute and he’s yet to find the back of the net for Milan.

According to today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below), Milan have three key targets for the No.9 role: Jonathan David (Lille), Serhou Guirassy (Stuttgart) and Akor Adams (Montpellier). Whether one of these can arrive in January, however, is the big question.

Even though he has the highest price tag at €40m, David is paradoxically the ‘easiest’ to sign in January, per the newspaper. His start to the season has been disappointing and with a decent offer, Milan could get the ‘yes’ of Lille.

Guirassy has a release clause of €17m but he plans to leave in the summer, while the situation is similar for Adams. Having said all of this, last-minute opportunities could emerge in January and other targets thus cannot be excluded for now.

  1. 40M for this penalty merchant? It would be really stupid to sign someone like him when you know he is not the type of player Pioli love’s to play as the striker. They should evaluate other positions first before rushing in and signing a striker. Evaluate whether Pioli will remain as the head coach before making a decision, imagine we sign a striker in January and it turns out he doesn’t fit the new manager’s system.
They should pay 12M for Assan and sell Krunic to Fenerbache.

  2. I hear russians are hated now. This dude Fedor Chalov would be a good back up. Rebič type, can play anywhere up front. Tho overall i still think they should buy Pavlidis

  3. I still don’t get the fixation with this player. 40mil isn’t pocket change and for this much money his numbers better be jumping off the page… which they aren’t. So why exactly are we after him?

    1. probably something to do with commissions and maybe the leao fiasco with his sporting stuff.
I dont see why Lille would sell their only ST in the winter tho. literally the only ST in the club

      1. or maybe it’s because they know how shit he is? and the fact that this is the only club that’s desperate enough to get him/too stingy + broke to get anyone else.

additionally, with their impeccable scouting, they most likely have a promising young replacement and need our money to secure his transfer.

        1. nah, thats not it. Lille might be a seller but they are not stupid. I’m not really a David fan (dont want him in Milan) but he did good for Lille, he is their top goalscorer, you know. Of all time.. Cant replace that overnight.
Tho i agree they most def have someone in mind already, but they dont need money. Made over 300M€ in sells over the years. Wonder where that went 😀
