GdS: David with a discount – Milan still want Lille forward to complete attack

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan still have Jonathan David at the top of their list of striker targets for the summer despite his difficult start to the season, according to a report.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below), Milan’s plan is to renew Olivier Giroud’s contract by another year until 2025 and also finally integrate Lorenzo Colombo into the first team fold after multiple loan spells.

However, an investment in a new striker for the future will also be needed, and ‘David with a discount’ is on the agenda. The management plan to make the Lille star the ‘prized piece of the attacking relay’ as someone who Giroud can pass the baton to.

Milan tried to sign the Canada international at the end of last August and will continue to monitor his situation in January, given his deal will expire in June 2025. This is a detail that lowers his market value from the €60m requested last summer to around €40m.

It is more difficult to imagine that the Rossoneri will sign him when the winter transfer window reopens, but Milan will make a second attempt at some point, even more aggressive than the first.

  1. What is the obsession with this guy?

Barely worth 15m let alone 40m to 60m.

We need someone to replace what it is we seem to think Giroud does well and who is actually a prolific goal scorer.

    1. he is Canadian but also American (born in New York)
+ Cardinal own stock in Lille maybe he want to share our super duper financial profit

  2. Not convinced by this guy at all, Don’t see what all the fuss is about, and for 40m ???

Would rather use that 40m for Scamacca or better yet make Colombo the main man and use the 40m towards Scalvini in defence or Ricci for midfield

      1. Only a dumb@ss would not take advantage of this. Blame the politicians for creating this, not the owners ours or otherwise.

      2. Have you seen any of the Azzuri games over the last several years? There is no Italian talent up front. 40M on Scamacca would be a criminal waste of money, he’s a waste of space.

  3. Gerry, pay 20/30M more, get Benjamin Sesko, and quit being stingy.
This is the one spot where we should splash cash, given how rare number 9s are in the modern game.

Plus, the full fee is going to get paid in installments either way, so you might as well…

  4. The worst part about this obsession is that it assumes that we have a #9 in Giroud who can hold up the ball and complete the system.

We’re going to spend all of the budget on the guy you’d bring off the bench who’s probably no better than Okafor anyway.

I don’t understand how we can get so carried away with a Colombo brace either. He’s not going to lead the line in big matches or UCL. He’s your Gilardino who can bang one from distance to much better effect.

Giroud is to Milan what Homer Simpson was to the Pwer Plant in the Frank Grimes episode.

He’s a striker. That means he’s the furthest forward and most likely to score by virtue of that presence. The rest of his game is garbage. It may once have been great but at 37 he’s a giant Pippo when we need someone that is much more like Zlatan (who could hold the ball and distribute).

    1. Moreoverer, these blinkers cost us Scamacca who will finish the season as the league’s best striker.

He was perfect fit at a relatively cheap price and Gasperini looks to have cracked the code to get him to realise his potential.
