GdS: ‘The derby of America’ – Weah and Pulisic square off during Juventus vs. Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will take on Juventus in California in the early hours of Friday morning, and there will be a further American theme to the battle between the two rivals.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below), Timothy Weah will face off against his USA team-mate Christian Pulisic. Both are new signings for Juventus and Milan respectively, both to reinforce the flanks, and both await great fanfare at the Dignity Health Sports Park.

“Pulisic is a friend of mine and I can’t wait to face him,” Weah said on a live Twitch. Both should start from the beginning. Milan are looking for another step forward having lost from a 2-0 lead against Real Madrid, while for Juve it will be their first summer game after the cancellation of the match against Barcelona.

Max Allegri is expected to put faith in the 3-5-2 with Chiesa and Kean in attack, also due to the unavailability of Vlahovic. Milik has recovered from his calf problem but should start from the bench, in midfield Locatelli will join McKennie and Miretti.

Weah should be right wing-back and Cambiaso was tried on the left, who Allegri wants to evaluate on tour. The fans yesterday sang chants for Pogba, but he continues to be unavailable and will be throughout the tour.

Milan meanwhile will use a 4-3-3 with Pulisic-Giroud-Leao in attack. Reijnders, will be a starter for the first time, alongside Krunic and Loftus-Cheek in the midfield.

In defence, Calabria and Theo Hernandez will be the full-backs, but Thiaw will play in the middle with Tomori instead of Simic. There will be room for changes in the second half, but it is certainly a sign that the German is set to get the nod over Kjaer and Kalulu, the latter of whom joined the squad only yesterday.

  1. What time is the match played european cet time ? because its already the 27th here so i assume its friday morning instead of actually thursday the 27th which i could see as the date put forward somewhere.

        1. Thanks for clarifying it, well my phone doesnt even have internet so i think ill stick with hesgoal or some other site, it might even be available on youtube as well as you can sometimes watch live matches there as well.

  2. Should be a good opportunity to examine closer how we fare the match. My interest would be :

    1. How Pulisic play in the right, he looked at home playing LW, will be interesting if he can do the same in opposite wing. I’m optimistic though, he already did that at Dortmund after all.

    2. How our defence will play, with Maignan, Thiaw and Tomori. Hopefully no silly mistake again.

    3. How our midfield will perform in 4-3-3, there should be improvement as they become more familiar with the system and with each other. Especially how they will add in attack and defence.

    4. How the subs will play, especially : Colombo, Simic, Romero and Pobega.

    5. How will Andrea Cambiaso play for Juve, since if the rumor are true, we are interested in him.

    1. Pulisic was playing RW at Dortmund? I thought he was on the left, thanks for the precision. Nice debuts for him, let’s keep going.

      1. He plays both wing, but for 3 years at Dortmund’s first team (2016-2019) his main position is RW.

He started playing regularly at LW after he transferred to Chelsea.
