GdS: Di Francesco in pole position to be next AC Milan boss

By Oliver Fisher -

Former Roma and Sassuolo boss Eusebio Di Francesco is favourite to take over from Gennaro Gattuso at AC Milan, according to a report.

Gattuso’s future with the Rossoneri has come under intense scrutiny in recent weeks following a poor run of form, which has in turn taken Champions League qualification out of their own hands.

A number of names have already been touted as his potential successor, including the likes of Maurizio SarriAntonio Conte and even Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Now, a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Gattuso will leave Milan at the end of the season, regardless of a top four finish.

They report that the club’s hierarchy have been working on Rino’s replacement for weeks, and that the man currently in pole is Di Francesco.

The 49-year-old was even recently pictures having dinner in a restaurant in the centre of Milan, adding fuel to the rumours that he could be the man to succeed Gattuso.

Di Francesco, sacked in March by Roma, is still under contract with the capital club having been given his marching orders due to concerns over league positioning and man-management.

Those two worries still exist for Leonardo, who will evaluate and scrutinise any coach heavily before his appointment, while the Brazilian himself is not 100% certain of keeping his job into next season.
